Jack Evans determined to take Gillingham first team chance

Two substitute appearances for Gillingham have given young defender Jack Evans the taste of first team football and he’s desperate for more.

Evans (pictured) made his debut earlier in the season at Torquay and came on for the second half in Monday night’s defeat against Southend.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler is considering giving his young players more game time, as the club’s slump in results continues and Evans would relish the chance for his opportunity.

Evans, a first year professional, said: "I know I need to bide my time but when I do get a chance I need to take it. Hopefully, I have done that so far.

"If I play on Saturday that would be great but if not, I need to keep working hard and wait for my chance again.

"I know I need to be patient because the other players around me have been there and done it. The gaffer threw me in on Monday and that showed he has confidence in me."

Evans, along with fellow youngster Connor Essam, he is being talked about a lot more in recent weeks.

But he added: "It is nice but I am not getting big-headed. It’s just one game."
