Hurdler Jack Green wants to make his dreams come true when he seeks to claim for a place in the TeamGB track and field squad for the London 2012 at this week’s British Olympic trials.
The Maidstone 400m hurdler (pictured) will line-up alongside the cream of British talent for the seeded heats of the Aviva 2012 Trials at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Friday night, with the final coming on Saturday evening.
The top two finishers in the final will automatically be nominated for a place in TeamGB, so long as they have met the Olympic A qualifying standard in the past year, while a third place will be awarded by a UK Athletics selection panel before the team is officially announced at the start of July.
The 20-year-old has a pb of 48.98 – more than half a second inside the Olympic A standard, however Green’s training partner Dai Greene (48.20) is world champion while Nathan Woodward (48.71), Rick Yates (49.39) and Rhys Williams (49.45) have all also run the A standard.
Green said: "I already have the Olympic A standard and if I can get into the top two, then that will be enough. Five of us have the qualifying standard but I am second fastest and if it comes down to head-to-heads then I have beaten everyone except Dai."
He added: "The third place is a discretionary decision but I don’t even want to think about that. I just want to win. I know that will get me to the Olympics and that has always been my dream."
