A strong Gillingham second eleven comfortably beat Leyton Orient 4-1 at Priestfield in the Combination League.
Jacob Erskine (pictured) netted two of the goals, while Jack Payne and Luis Cumbers were also on target for Mark Stimson’s side.
The Gills boss also took the opportunity to have a look at 18-year-old West Ham defender Matty Fry who is available on loan should Stimson wish to take the option up.
Defender Garry Richards, keeper Alan Julian and midfielder Adam Miller all played 90 minutes for the Gills. Stimson also took a look at triallist forward Fayed Ekoja.
Erskine put the Gills ahead from the spot on 25 minutes after Miller had been up-ended in the box. Two minutes later Cumbers fired home after latching onto Erskine’s cross.
Orient pulled a goal back before the break but the two goal lead was reinstated in the second half when Payne shot home, after Cumbers’ initial shot had been saved.
The Gills scored their fourth and final goal on the hour with a classy finish from Erskine.
Gills: Julian, Essam, Wynter, Fry, Richards, Payne, Miller, Yussuff, Cumbers (Stimson 71mins), Erskine (Geering 71mins), Ekoja (Rance 60mins). Subs not used: Davies, Quinn.
