A BOY of eight saved his mother when she collapsed in their home with agonising stomach pains.

Jacob Wilson kept calm, despite his 27-year-old mother Kirsty being unconscious on the bathroom floor.

There was nobody for Jacob to ask for help or advice so he called 999 for the ambulance service, clearly gave his full address to the telephone operator and then stayed with his mother until the ambulance arrived.

Single mother Kirsty, of Harebell Close, Chatham, said: “I am so proud of Jacob. I just cannot believe that such a young boy should have the presence of mind to do everything he managed to do.

“God knows what would have happened to me if he had not been with me and done those things.”

When the ambulance crew arrived, Jacob let them in and showed them to the bathroom, before getting Kirsty’s mobile phone so she could ring her own mother to let her know what was happening.

Kirsty has decided to nominate her clear-thinking son for a Pride in Medway award in the young heroes category. The winners will receive their awards at a presentation in March.

The awards are again supported by the Medway Messenger, mhs homes, the University of Kent at Medway and Medway Council. Nominations have now closed.
