Kent spinner James Tredwell could be a surprise inclusion in the England side for the first one-day international against South Africa in Johannesburg on Friday.
The 27-year-old was called up to the squad on Wednesday night as an emergency replacement for Graeme Swann, who has suffered a side strain injury that will keep him out of the first two one-day internationals.
Tredwell will challenge Adil Rashid, who conceded 25 runs in his only over of South Africa's record-breaking score in the second Twenty20 international at Centurion last Sunday, for a place in the side.
The off-spinner previously toured with the England one-day squad to New Zealand at the start of last year, but is yet to make his debut.
He took 14 wickets in 14 one-day matches for Kent last season, with an economy rate of 4.80, including a career-best 6-27 haul in the Friends Provident Trophy win at Middlesex in May.
