James Tredwell is a surprise inclusion in the Kent team for the first LV= County Championship Division 1 four-day home game of the season against leaders Yorkshire starting at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old England spinner was due to miss the game before linking up with the rest of the England World Twenty20 squad, before flying to the West Indies later this week.

However the delays caused by the volcano in Iceland mean they won’t now leave until Sunday, so the ECB have given Tredwell and Yorkshire pair Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad the go-ahead to play.

James Hockley (pictured) replaces Phil Edwards in the only change to the 11 on duty at Nottingham last week. Simon Cook again misses out with a side strain, and there’s no place for new signing Dewald Nel

However the Tykes new overseas player, West Indian fast bowler Tino Best will miss the game, as he is still in Barbados waiting for a flight to England.

Yorkshire have won both their opening championship games of the season, with 20-year old paceman Oliver Hannon-Dalby taking 13 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls.

Kent: Denly, Key (capt), Jones, Van Jaarsveld, Northeast, Stevens, Hockley, Tredwell, Coles, Mahmood, Khan
