Welling manager Jamie Day has dismissed fears that the club's playing budget will hinder their hopes of progession.
Former boss Andy Ford cited budget cuts as the main reason behind his departure earlier this season.
But Day is happy with the money available to him as he continues to steer the Wings away from the Blue Square South relegation zone.
"The budget that we've got is mid-table, it's not as bad as everyone makes out," revealed Day.
"Teams higher up the league have got bigger budgets than us but I'm sure there are teams that have got lower budgets as well.
"If we can use it wisely then I think we should at least be competing mid-table."
Day has already made three signings since taking over at Park View Road, and there could be more new faces to come shortly.
He added: "There's one or two that we've put on our list but it all depends on if we've got enough money in the budget to do that or whether we need to wait until we're further down the line.
"When I last spoke to the owners, there is a budget that we've got and we're right on the line. It might need to be cut but at the minute they've said we can keep it at this figure.
"One or two might have to go in the next month but if we have a run in the FA Trophy then maybe we can keep the squad together."
