A middle-aged man had to be rescued after his jet-ski broke down.

Thames Coastguard were first to be notified by police of the drifting vessel which was seen off The Strand in Gillingham at about 5pm last night.

Medway coastguards were sent to the scene along with the Sheerness All Weather lifeboat.

A local workboat was able to tow the jet ski back to Gillingham Marina where they were met by coastguards who took him back to his vehicle at the Strand slip.

He did not require any medical attention despite being cold.

Although he was carrying a buoyancy aid he had left his mobile phone in his car.
