Up to 400 jobs could be created at Aylesham as part of the village’s rejuvenation.

English Partnerships, which funds regeneration schemes, is proposing to build offices and work training centres linked to a masterplan drawn up for the future of the former colliery village.

David Ashworth, area director for English Partnerships in the south east, said: “We are committed to ensuring increased employment, investment and housing for the Aylesham community and will be working on proposals to make that happen.

“Plans are already being drawn up for new homes.”

Cllr Frederick Scales, portfolio holder for economy and special projects at Dover District Council, said: “The proposals look very encouraging and will be of benefit to the communities around Aylesham.

“It will be important that such a development links into and complements the plans and aspirations for the whole district.”

A scheme to develop the former Snowdown Colliery has been dropped because of a number of problems including site ownership and cost.
