Store giants Netto and Wilkinson could be coming to Strood.
Medway Council planning officers will this week consider an application for the two stores to share the former Safeway building in Strood High Street.
If application is agreed, the Danish discount supermarket chain is expected to occupy the side closest to the car park behind the store. Wilkinson, the hardware chain, would take up the side closest to the High Street.
A new opening would be created for the Netto food store and the existing car park would be re-used with two new trolley bays being formed in the parking area and one at the entrance to Netto.
New ram raid bollards would be installed in the front of the new openings and the existing disabled parking spaces are to be reinstated on close proximity to the store entrances.
The re-use of the shop unit is expected to provide about 25 full-time and 10 part- time jobs.
The site has been vacant for three years and is in a state of disrepair. Illegal parking, vandalism and fly-tipping are currently a problem.
A decision is due to be made on Wednesday
