Gillingham defender John Nutter is putting the club before his own future as the season draws to an exciting close.
Nutter (pictured right) will be out of contract in the summer but all he is focusing on is trying to help get the Gills promoted.
“It’s not about me,” he said. “We want Gillingham to get out of this division and hopefully I might be rewarded and if I’m not, I’m not.
“I’m desperate to stay and if I play well I can help the team go up and that’s the most important thing.”
Nutter has been in top form since displacing on-loan Arsenal left-back Rene Steer from the team, having briefly lost his place following some less than convincing displays.
“Every footballer should have competition for his place,” said Nutter.
“The gaffer brought Rene Steer in and he’s a bright young player. He got his chance and did all right and then I came back in and I’ve done all right. It’s nice to have that competition there and if it helps me play better then great.”
