STEP out with Bromley Extra this Sunday and put Elmstead Lane safety concerns in the spotlight.
The families of two school boys killed on Elmstead Lane will be joined by their local MP and a football star in a Bromley Extra day of action this Sunday, April 27.
We are asking as many people as possible to join us as we stop the traffic to turn the spotlight on safety on the road.
Join Charlton Athletic and Bromley police and firefighters as they join Bromley Extra and the families of schoolboys Alex Ludlow and Steven Jeacock to highlight the road’s hazards to motorists and pedestrians.
The march, which starts at midday, is the public culmination of the Elmstead Lane - Action Now campaign.
Charlton football star Grant Basey, a former Coopers Technology College pupil, as was 12-year-old Steven, is joining the march.
Grant, who lives in Chislehurst, said: “I don’t think people realise the importance of road safety in our borough.
“It has taken two tragic deaths for people to realise the dangers that can happen if you don’t take care.”
MP Bob Neill will also be there. He said: “I will be joining the march organised by the Bromley Extra to raise awareness of the clear problem that exists on Elmstead Lane. “We’ve had two tragic deaths recently and I don’t want to see any more.
“Anything that promotes road safety should be commended.”
The march will walk the length of Elmstead Lane from Elmstead Woods station and finish at the junction with Offenham Road, where police and firefighters will be in attendance giving out road safety advice.
We encourage anyone who attends the march along Elmstead Lane to take public transport where possible.
Chislehurst Sports and Country Club on Elmstead Lane has kindly agreed to let us use their car park but please park respectfully to keep the area safe for road users.
