Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has called on defender Josh Gowling to sort out his discipline problems.
Gowling was sent-off for the second time this season on Tuesday. So far he has 10 bookings, not including two cautions which led to his previous sending-off against Brentford on Boxing Day.
He was back in the starting 11 for the first time since early February but now faces a two match ban.
"It was his chance to step back in and we needed someone like him," said Stimson.
"He is a good athlete, with good mobility and he can head the ball well.
"I wouldn’t call him an over-aggressive centre-half and it would be different if he was like Garry Richards.
"(His discipline) is a concern and something he has to improve on otherwise it’s going to cost us dearly."
Gowling conceded a penalty against Brighton and that prompted his dismissal.
Stimson said: "He stood still and then the ball was played. When he went it was too late.
"A big part of the game as a defender is concentration and that is where Josh could improve on."
