A jury has retired to consider verdicts in the trial of a family doctor accused of sexually assaulting two women at a Medway surgery.

Dr Sanjay Chatterjee, of Perch Close, Larkfield, Maidstone, has denied four charges of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration involving the first woman and one of sexual assault involving the second woman.

The prosecution at Maidstone Crown Court alleged the 46-year-old GP used his position to wield power over the woman involved in the five charges.

Prosecutor Lesley Bates said Chatterjee molested the woman and committed a serious sex act on her.

She only came forward after the other woman complained that she had been groped by the GP.

Chatterjee, whose wife is an NHS manager, denied sexually assaulting the woman and claimed he was having an affair with her.

“I could not believe this could turn into this kind of allegation,†he said.

Miss Bates said Chatterjee twice put his hand on the second woman’s bottom, making her feel uncomfortable, and tried to kiss her.

She brushed him off, said the prosecutor, and when she complained to a member of staff he apologised for his behaviour and said it was a one-off and would not happen again.
