Kent County Council is being pressed to carry out an urgent review of its child protection procedures in the wake of the Baby P scandal.
Opposition Labour county councillors will today urge KCC to review how it looks after its most vulnerable young children.
The call, due to be made at a full council meeting, comes after the Government announced its own plans for an overhaul of the training of social workers following the Haringey scandal.
Cllr Mike Eddy, Labour group leader, said he wanted KCC to carry out a broad review and also re-examine individual cases of children on the at-risk register.
"What we have to do is ensure that we as a council are secure in the knowledge that we have got good procedures in place and robust measures in place. All councillors are corporate parents and we have an individual and collective responsibility for looked after children and for children at risk. We need to make sure that we are not exposing children or the council to the risk of a Baby P-type scandal."
He denied the demand for a review was politically motivated. "This is not a party political issue. This is about the lives and future of our children."
