Rob Key has welcomed plans for an expanded
Twenty20 next year, but is concerned it could lead to a gruelling
schedule for the players.

The Kent skipper (pictured) says it is “a
fantastic form of the game” that the public love and believes it
breaks up the summer well.

But he is worried about how all the LV County
Championship games will be fitted in around an expanded Twenty20
Cup.

“If you have got a period of Twenty20 it is
pretty good it and will actually help your bowlers,” he said. “I
know it is pretty hectic but it is only four overs each as opposed
to playing Championship or 50-over cricket all the time.

“What is my worry a little bit is that, either
side of an expanded Twenty20, are we are going to be getting
crammed in with four-day game after four-day game, with only one
day off?

“We have just had a four-dayer, one day off,
four-dayer, one day game, one day off, four day game and then this
(finals day).

“We have got to make sure we are able to keep
the quality in the four-day game. I think it is brilliant that we
have got more Twenty20, but we have to be careful we don’t end up
playing back-to-back Championship games throughout the whole
year."
