Kent chairman George Kennedy says he firmly believes that director of cricket Paul Farbrace remains the best man to lead the county to success.

While admitting that performances have not always lived up to expectations this year, Mr Kennedy (pictured) says that changing coaches now would be a huge mistake.

He explained: “There are no talks whatever of any shape or form with Farby, who is under contract. He is the director of cricket at Kent County Cricket Club and as far as I’m concerned he will remain director of cricket.

"It’s hard to blame him when we haven’t actually got all the results we want and I think changing coach at this time would be a big mistake. I genuinely have confidence in the guy and I think all of the others do as well.

“Football clubs sack coaches when their natives get restless – I have not noticed the natives getting restless with Farby. I think he’s actually a very popular guy with the fans. There’s no hidden agenda I’m not aware of anyone who wants to get rid of Farby.

“The guy is clearly nervous because results have not gone his way but I spend a lot of time telling him not to worry, get on with the job, do the best you can, and last week we hammered Surrey, and we beat the Dutch, whose coach reminded me on Sunday beat England in the World Cup so they are no mugs.”
