It was disappointing for me not to be able to get the boys over the line against India last week.
Joe had done so well to get us into a winning position and I went in with nine needed off seven balls and Munaf bowled a good last over at me.
To go in at that stage and try to hit the ball out of the park was tough. It just showed how good they are. They haven’t had the greatest of times over here but are on another level. We tried our hardest but just came up short.
I have finished a few games off for us this season and went in confident I could do it again but it didn’t happen.
It was like Denly of old batting out there and the sort of innings that got him into the England team. If he can do that more regularly, then I am sure he will be pushing for international recognition again.
It is just the sort of knock he is capable of and it was great to watch. We did everything to win the match, probably until I went in, to be fair.
It was a pretty bizarre day all-round with all the rain, the bomb scares in the city. People are saying the season has gone quickly and we are heading into our final three championship matches.
We have got Essex this week – and I scored a hundred against them at Chelmsford in April.
There is plenty of cricket left and my personal goal is to get a few big scores –everyone else is looking to do the same.
There are enough points still to play for and we can still make our season respectable. It’s about building a basis to take into next season. To a certain degree, we have done that in one-day cricket, winning four of our last five Clydesdale Bank 40 games.
Jonesy has led the side in the last three games and it’s brilliant the club have awarded him a benefit next year.
I am happy for him because he has been a massive performer for the club and winning the Ashes with England was a great personal achievement. He started his career in county cricket quite late but has made the most of it since.
Being vice captain, and taking over from Keysy has made it a busy time for him but he is enjoying it.
