Kent have completed the signing of Durham fast bowler Mark Davies.

The 31-year-old has signed a one-year deal after having been released from the final year of his contract at the Riverside.

He joins winter recruits Charlie Shreck, Mike Powell, Ben Harmison, Scott Newman and Brendan Nash in what's set to be a new look side for the opening LV= County Championship game of the season against Yorkshire on Thursday, April 5.

Kent's chief executive, Jamie Clifford, said: "He went out to Antigua with a view to having a closer look at him. He is just back from injury so we wanted to know he was physically up to it, and he came through it well.

"The physios are saying there is nothing to particularly worry about, he is a fast bowler so that line of work is not without risk.

"If we can keep him on the park then we know we can get something good from him."

Davies said he was thrilled to have signed a contract with Kent.

"I hope both myself and the team will find success in all forms of the game this season," he said.

Off the field, Kent'ss hopes of building a hotel at the St Lawrence Ground have suffered another setback after the club's members were told at the annual general meeting on Tuesday night, that hopes of concluding a deal with a hotelier have come to an end.

The club are now in discussion with several other parties.
