Kent County Cricket Club remain ‘totally committed’ to the £8.2million St Lawrence Ground redevelopment scheme.

The news last week that Canterbury City Council are to lend the club £4m has given the project a huge shot in the arm, and acting chief executive Jamie Clifford said: "It is full steam ahead as far as we are concerned."

Mr Clifford revealed that the club have found a developer and that work to bring the scheme to fruition is continuing.

He said: "I can’t sit here and say this is when it is going to start and this is when it’s going to end but we are totally committed to the project, as much now as we were two, three years ago."

The redevelopment will take two years to complete and includes a hotel, conference facility, health and fitness centre, hospitality boxes, stand refurbishment and floodlights.

Mr Clifford added: "I’ve been involved right back to the first vision of the project and I’m a huge believer in what it will do for Kent County Cricket Club.

"The point we’re at is getting everything aligned so that we are ready to go. It’s a key phase because whatever we put together in the plan now is likely to be the way it plays out."
