Kent head coach Jimmy Adams has agreed a contract extension which will see him remain at the St Lawrence Ground until at least the end of the 2014 season.

The 45-year-old former West Indies star took up the role ahead of the start of last season and almost steered the club to promotion in his first campaign in charge.

Adams (pictured) said: "I am extremely pleased that the county has seen fit to extend my contract to 2014. I look forward to this continued involvement with the county, and with it, the opportunity to work with an exciting and talented group of players."

Kent’s chairman of cricket, Graham Johnson added: "We are absolutely delighted with Jimmy’s further commitment to Kent.

"2012 was very encouraging, he took the role with a desire to create something sustainable. It’s great that we can now plan with him to build on his first year over the next two seasons."

Adams played more than 50 Test matches and over 100 One Day Internationals for the West Indies during a nine year international career which included a spell as captain.

He has also been President of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association for the past five years.
