A Kent golf boss extradited to the US for alleged arms dealing should find out later if he can be released on bail.

Christopher Tappin is accused of selling batteries to Iran, but he denies doing anything wrong.

The 65-year-old, who lost his battle against being sent to America last week, faces up to 35 years in jail if he is convicted.

He is due to appear in court in El Paso for a bail hearing today.

Mr Tappin is president of the Kent Golf Society, which heads up the group that represents golfers across the county.

He lost his two-year battle against extradition last week following allegations he sold batteries for Iranian missiles, but he claims he is the victim of a sting by US agents.

Mr Tappin, from Orpington, was extradited under a treaty between the US and Britain, which means American prosecutors can demand a suspect is handed over without the evidence ever being tested in a British court.
