Kent golfers have failed in their efforts to qualify for next week’s Open Championship at Turnberry.

None of the Kent players bidding for one of the total of 12 spots at the three final qualifying venues managed to book their place.

At Kilmarnock (Barassie), amateur Dartford player Michael Saunders shots two rounds of 75 to finish tied a total of four-over and tied 66th out of 96 players while Daniel Byrne, also from Dartford, carded 74, 73 for a one-over 147 total and tied 55th.

Rochester and Cobham's Lloyd Campbell missed out after a disappointing opening 76 saw him scratch his second round.

At (Gailes Links) Glasgow, a first round 78 from Deangate Ridge's Thomas Crozer saw him miss out, Wildernesse's Peter Appleyard shot 83, 80 to finish tied 89th. Rochester & Cobham's Matt Haines shot 73, 79 to finish tied 67.

The other Kent players were in action at Western Gailes. Royal Cinque Ports' Steven Tiley shot 74, 81 to finish tied 73rd and Chart Hills' Richard Neil-Jones carded 77 and 76 to finish tied 65th.

Another Chart Hills member, Tom Sherreard (pictured) had a fine second round 72 but a disappointing 79 saw him finish tied 50th.

The 288-man field completed 36 holes, with four berths available at each of the three venues – (Gailes Links) Glasgow, Kilmarnock (Barassie) and Western Gailes.

The tournament returns to Kent in 2011 when Royal St George’s hosts the event for the 14th time.
