Kent are chasing another overseas recruit as they move into the final month of the season.

Players have to be registered with the ECB by Thursday and coach Simon Willis said: "We have two or three names in mind but it’s how the cards fall. It’s doubtful anything will happen before the end of the week but it all depends on visas and paperwork."

With Wayne Parnell back in South Africa and Ryan McLaren, Robbie Joseph and Martin Saggers injured, Willis added: "Our bowling attack has been down to the bare bones in the last few weeks and we are making a day-to-day assessment. It has always been our No.1 target to win promotion (in the Championship)."

Kent Spitfires aim to record their fourth successive NatWest Pro40 win when they face Surrey Brown Caps in a day-night game, in front of the Sky cameras at the St Lawrence Ground on Thursday.

The Spitfires are set to stick with the same side that beat Derbyshire and Kent are operating Kids-for-a Quid.

Kent face Surrey in theChampionship at Canterbury on Friday, defending a 12-point lead over Derbyshire with two games in hand.

Three of the county’s other Division 2 games are away from home. They face Derbyshire at Derby next Wednesday, and Middlesex at Uxbridge the following week, before finishing against Gloucestershire at Bristol, on September 23.

The final home game is against Leicestershire beginning on Tuesday, September 15 at Canterbury.
