A year ago, Matt Endersby was either lambing or taking his pigs to market.
Now, the 42 year old from Milstead, near Sittingbourne, is having his eyebrows plucked and lipstick and eyeliner applied as he pursues his new career as a Boy George lookalike.
But the transformation from pig farmer to performer wasn’t pre-planned: it stemmed from a friend’s 1980s pop star-themed birthday party last year. He remembered he had once been told he looked like the Culture Club star, "so I thought I’d have a go at being him."
From there, the father-of-two was booked by a company specialising in providing celebrity lookalikes - and hasn’t looked back since, appearing as Boy George at gigs in London and elsewhere.
Four months ago, he took up singing lessons although his repertoire only runs to a couple of numbers at present, including the evergreen number one hit Karma Chameleon.
And earlier this month he recorded a version of the hit in a London studio which will be sent off to interested booking agents.
Matt’s make-up and Boy George outfits are the work of a friend, Rainham-based artist Belinda Clarkson-Hayes.
He said: "I am not Boy George, I just look like him. I sing his songs and I perform so it doesn’t matter that I don't exactly sound like him."
Matt admitted his life had changed out of all recognition.
"It’s a real transformation," he said. "This time last year we would have been lambing selling our pigs at market and now I’m having my eyebrows plucked!"
He hopes to take part in this year’s Sittingbourne Carnival on June 26, possibly enlisting his 14-year-old son Jack and daughter Mollie, 12, to join him on a float as George and The Georgettes.
He has, however, yet to broach the idea to his offspring and although confident Mollie would be happy with the prospect is unsure about his son’s reaction.
