The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for freezing temperatures and possible snow in Kent over the weekend.

Forecasters issued the early alert as temperatures are set to take a tumble overnight.

A band of rain heading from the south west could turn to snow and sleet on Sunday and Monday.

The county will see lows of 1C over the weekend before temperatures are set to drop below freezing in many places on Monday.

The Met Office said wintry showers are expected - particularly in the east of the county - and ice will increasingly become a hazard.

It said people should be aware of possible disruption to travel.

Last month, Southeastern commuters faced heavy disruption and cancellations as snow affected rail services.

Many schools were closed for at least one day because of hazards caused by the white stuff.
