Joe Denly rattled a superb century but it was not enough to help Kent overcome India in a weather-hit Tour Match at the St Lawrence Ground on Friday night.

Rain reduced the game from 50 overs aside to 20, and after putting the visitors in, Kent didn't take long to find a breakthrough, David Balcombe having Patel caught behind for just one.

However a nippy 15 from Rahul Dravid, combined with an assured knock from youngster Virat Kohli saw the tourists put on 49 for the second wicket before Dravid fell victim to Adam Ball.

Rohit Sharma was clean-bowled by Adam Riley for a rapid 30 but Kohli smashed three sixes and cracked seven fours on his way to 78 from just 53 balls before being run-out by Denly (pictured).

James Tredwell - omitted from the England ODI squad - dismissed Suresh Raina (4) and had MS Dhoni caught by Darren Stevens for a first-ball duck on his way to figures of 2-18 from three overs.

Late-on Ravichandran Ashwin added a quickfire 23 not out to help the visitors to 164-6.

In reply Denly swiftly set about reducing the required run-rate of more than eight an over, though he received little support, with Daniel Bell-Drummond (11) and Martin van Jaarsveld (17) failing to linger.

Denly fired three sixes and eight fours in his 68-run blast, which took him to 100 before he was bowled by RP Singh.

Kent's fate was sealed when Sam Northeast was run-out for just two and Stevens was bowled for 17 as Kent lost three wickets for the addition of just three runs and eventually fell six runs short of victory.
