Some areas of Kent experienced moderate snowfall earlier today with drivers urged to take extra care over the weekend with temperature forecast to remain around freezing.
Snow fell in the south east and north of the county overnight and returned to some areas around teatime. Some places did not get above 2C throughout the day and there were forecasts of light flurries of snow and sleet overnight, turning to rain later.
Some places escaped altogether and with gritters out all night the conditions did not appear to have cause too much travel disruption. However, a series of accidents on the M20 led to warnings to drivers to take care by police. Southeastern reported that its first train was held up due to "icy conditions" but it did not expect disruption due to the weather today.
The legions of parkrunners taking part in various events across the county this morning have been warned to take care and be prepared for the conditions but there are no reports of cancellations.
A yellow weather warning has been in place and Kent Police have urged drivers to leave time for journeys and keep a safe distance between the vehicle in front. Kent Specials twitter account reported that a driver had been stopped on the M25 using a phone during a heavy bout of snowfall.
Three collisions happened this morning on the M20 between junctions 8 and 9, for Maidstone East and Ashford, due to snow and ice.
The first took place at 5.07am between two cars and then at 5.20am on the opposite carriageway, a car skidded and ended up in a ditch. A lorry and car then collided on the coast-bound carriageway at 6.15am.
No one was injured and they have all been cleared.
About 4cm of snow fell overnight in Whitfield near Dover prompting drivers to take extra care on the roads. Resident John Sheridan says there no sign of it disappearing as light flurries continue.
The sporting programme was largely unaffected with Gillingham's League One game at home to Port Vale going ahead, although some minor fixtures were postponed.
