Kent's December snows cause blizzards in hours

Christmas shopping may be put on hold today, as icy roads and no thaw lead to treacherous driving conditions.

Motorists are still being warned to take extreme care, as the thermometer remains below zero.

And, as our readers' pictures taken this weekend show, the icy blasts have brought our county to a standstill.

Several inches of snow have coated the county with a deep layer of the white stuff, leaving even main roads blanketed.

The advice from Kent Police is to check the weather forecast and road conditions for your journey and destination before you travel.

Police have reminded the public to only call 999 if a crime is in progress or life is in danger. All other calls to the police should be directed to the single non-emergency number of 01622 690690.

On the buses, Arriva says most services are working to normal timetables, with the exceptions being some in Dartford, Gravesend and Swanscombe and certain services in Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells. For a full update, visit Arriva's website.
