Kent's fortunes followed a familiar pattern against Glamorgan at Cardiff last week as Rob Key’s men lost their fourth consecutive LV= County Championship match of the season.
Glamorgan dominated the Division 2 game from the start and their victory by an innings and five runs was achieved inside three days.
Dewald Nel was last out for Kent on Thursday evening as the visitors were dismissed in the 42nd over of their second innings for just 184.
However, Kent’s position at the bottom of the table had never looked like changing – after the first day’s play they were dismissed for just 242.
Limited resistance came from a 78-run partnership between Martin van Jaarsveld (57) and Alex Blake (26), but once again it was Darren Stevens (66) who top scored.
Kent, who have only managed to get past 300 on one occasion so far this summer, were unable to contain Glamorgan. Consistent scoring took the Welsh county to 434, with top-scorer Mark Wallace, leg before to James Tredwell for 107, becoming their first centurion of the campaign.
The only bright spot in a difficult time in the field for Kent was the sterling contribution of paceman Neil Saker (pictured), who bowled 38 overs and returned figures of 5-112.
Although Kent eventually wrapped up the Glamorgan innings with quick wickets on Thursday morning, their own reply began unconvincingly as they slipped to 32-3.
Van Jaarsveld (37) and Blake temporarily revived Kent’s fortunes, until Will Owen took two wickets in as many balls, trapping van Jaarsveld leg before and having Stevens dismissed first ball, caught at first slip.
There was some brave hitting from both Blake (51) and Matt Coles (50 not out), but wickets fell regularly until James Harris wrapped up Glamorgan’s victory by yorking Nel.
