Joe Denly left freezing Kent behind when he jetted off this week to spend the winter playing in Australia.

The 24-year-old Kent batsman is spending four months playing for Sydney Cricket Club and joins up with team-mate Sam Northeast who has now extended his trip until February.

Denly (pictured) has arranged and paid for the trip himself. He said: "It’s a good personal investment and something I want to do.

"It was a long summer for me but I have a had a good break and feel refreshed mentally and physically. It’s been nice to go training and feel good."

"It’s a fantastic opportunity to play a good standard of cricket on the quick decks out there and keep working on my game.

"There are couple of technical areas I have been concentrating on with Paul Farbrace.

"I was out bowled too many times last season, either to straight deliveries or through the gate."
