Gravesend will see the largest royal wedding street party in Kent march through its streets.

The parade, involving 450 school pupils, will take place on Thursday, April 28, the day before the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The youngsters have been working with local artists to create items to carry during the festival.

A parade will leave Towncentric behind the St George's shopping centre in Kempthorne Street, Gravesend at 10am before heading up High Street and turning into the St George's centre from New Road.

It will go up Windmill Street and finish at the new civic square in front of the civic centre.

After the parade there will be an open air children's street party which will finish at 11.30am and the public is invited to bring food to an open air street party with live music from 12.30pm.

Gravesham council, which is organising the celebrations with the Kent Equality Cohesion Council, is calling for Gravesham residents, workers and people from Commonwealth nations to take part.

It asks that those from the Commonwealth wear national costumes or carry their national flag to make the event as colourful as possible.
