Could this be one of the most crime-ridden streets in the country?

It may have just 14 homes, but residents in this tiny cul-de-sac are more likely to be the victims of violence, robbery or anti-social behaviour than anywhere else in Kent, according to a new crime map.

Plantation Close, in Stone, was the setting for 85 offences last December - almost three per day, and six per home - the newly released police figures claim.

The total made it the 38th most dangerous street in the country, and Kent’s crime hotspot.

According to www.police.uk, which breaks down crime statistics to individual street level, the close was the scene of one vehicle crime, eight violent crimes, four instances of anti-social behaviour, and 72 “other” offences, which include sexual assaults.

But it’s thought the tally could be the result of a glitch in the trouble-hit system, which may have copied crime statistics from Bluewater, just a few hundred yards away.

Pensioner Stanley Harwood, 82, who has lived in the street with wife Mavis, 79, since it was first built 10 years ago, says his next door neighbour’s car was stolen in December, but cannot remember any other crimes.

He added: “I can’t believe we’re one of the worst for crime. We’re both very happy here.”
