Kent one of worst counties for dumping trolleys

Kent has been named as one of the worst counties in the UK for dumping trolleys.

More than 20,000 were abandoned in 2017 alone - around 55 trolleys every day.

The problem costs British businesses £35m every year, according to research from retail equipment manufacturer, Wanzl.

It forms part of a new campaign to help tackle the issue.

Researchers found 40% of British shoppers don't think trolley dumping is an issue, with 46% describing the it as "a bit of a problem".

Campaigners are encouraging the public to use the free Trolleywise app to report any incidents.

This allows collection teams to rescue the item, and return it to the rightful retailer.

Simon King, head of retail system and Trolleywise at Wanzl, said: "The UK has the highest level of trolley loss in the world, however, our research shows a real misconception about the scale of the issue.

"By working together, we can tackle the blight of abandoned trolleys in green spaces, waterways, and public areas and reducing the impact manufacturing new trolleys has on the environment."
