KCC's roads team has been highly commended in an international awards.

The Prince Michael of Kent International Road Safety Awards recognises the most outstanding examples of road safety.

The county council's road safety team was given the award for its programme of education, training and publicity, which has resulted in 471 fewer people being killed or seriously injured on KCC's roads last year.

That means the government's target of a 40 per cent reduction in the number of people killed and seriously injured on Kent's roads has been achieved three years earlier than the 2010 deadline.

Road safety manager Ian Procter said: "Without the valuable support of our partners this excellent result would not have been possible.

"However, we won't be resting on our laurels. KCC remains committed to reducing the number of people killed or injured on the county's roads."
