Climate change activists fighting proposals for a coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth are planning a new 48-hour protest starting this Friday.

Groups of campaigners across the country will be involved.

It is unclear whether any protests will take place at the E.ON-owned Kingsnorth power station,near Hoo, as the campaigners are keeping many of their plans secret.

In August, thousands of activists laid siege to the power station, leading to the biggest Kent Police operation for many years.

The 48 hours of "action" are due to start at 12.01am on Friday to coincide with the second round of the E.ON-sponsored FA Cup.

A spokesman for the Camp for Climate Action, which is calling for the protests, said: "People will be targeting and approaching companies involved in building the new coal powered station."

Susan Moore, of the Camp for Climate Action, said: "With these protests, we are launching an ongoing direct action campaign designed to cause maximum disruption to all aspects of the construction of Kingsnorth power station.

"E.ON, companies in its supply chain, and anyone associated with new coal in the UK are all potential targets.

"Burning coal is the dirtiest way to produce electricity, and we refuse to stand by as the green light is given to a new generation of coal fired power stations."

Meanwhile, activists have set up internet websites and Facebook groups with protest details and addresses for the Coal Authority, E.ON and UK Coal offices, and schedules for FA Cup games.
