Knifeman in sex attack on student

A 19-year-old student has been sexually assaulted by a man armed with a large kitchen knife.

The student was walking down a footpath between North Dane Way and Shawsted Road, Lordswood, Chatham, when she was grabbed and sexually assaulted.

The student, who had been walking along North Dane Way towards Lordswood Leisure Centre, had noticed the man jogging ahead of her but continued walking. He then approached her and walked her into the woods before committing the assault.

The attacker is between 30 and 35, 6ft tall, of average build and clean-shaven. He was wearing a red fleece, blue jeans and a navy blue woolly hat.

The man disappeared after ordering the victim to walk further into the woods.

Medway Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the assault or who may know of any recent suspicious activity in the area.

The incident took place on Friday between 11.30pm and 11.50pm. Police are urging anyone who may have seen something, or who may have information in connection with the assault, to contact them on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
