Canterbury Hockey Club’s men are in good shape, according to player-coach Kwan Browne as they make final preparations before their England Hockey League promotion play-offs at Cannock this weekend.

They travel north tomorrow (Friday) before training on the pitch in the afternoon, ahead of two games, against North winners Brooklands MU on Saturday (1pm) followed 24 hours later by a meeting with Premier Division University of Exeter.

The results will determine whether the Polo Farm club will be back in the Premier Division next season.

Ross Gillham Jones has recovered from a groin injury, while Matthew Aaron Burton-Bowen and David Mathews have both been having intensive treatment on groin and calf injuries respectively this week from the physios at Kent County Cricket Club.

All three will be in an 18-man squad.

However, Browne (pictured) admits his biggest decision will be to decide who misses out in the final 16.

He said: "We will be stronger than we were against Bath Buccaneers, and at full strength so final selection will be difficult, with two unlucky to be left out.

"However they will still have a big role to play, carrying out important duties with the team."

Canterbury top the group after their 5-3 win against Bath at Bisham Abbey a fortnight ago.
