Not your average grandmother – but then there’s nothing average about Emily Daniels.
This 82-year-old, known as "Lady Luck" at the Coral bookies in Longfield, is one of the East End's true cockney characters, and has been baffling the locals with her uncanny nack of picking a winner – despite the fact she struggles with her eyesight.
Every day, Mrs Daniels checks out the race guide before heading off to her nearest bookmakers to place a bet, and more often than not, goes home with a tidy sum in her pocket.
She said: "I look in the paper every day, but I don’t read the form guide, I just pick out the names I like."
And her hot tip for picking a winner?
"Never go for the favourite, you’ll never win with the favourite," she said.
Her biggest win, from a £1.80 bet, was almost £800.
