The mother at the eye of the storm over the slaughter of a lamb at a Kent primary school has pulled her two children out of the school.

Jo Davis, pictured left, was among the first concerned parents to campaign for a reprieve for Lydd Primary School's farm lamb, Marcus, after her eight-year-old daughter Megan came home distressed over plans to slaughter him.

Head teacher Andrea Charman insists that the plan to raise the lamb and then slaughter him for meat, which in turn would be raffled in order to raise funds to buy more animals, was supported by pupils and staff.

Marcus was slaughtered over the weekend in a local abattoir.

Talking to the Kentish Express, Mrs Davis said: “Megan went to school on Monday and has not been back since. She said she never wants to go back again. I am respecting those wishes.”

Mrs Davis says he has also pulled four-year-old daughter Lucy out of the school and is trying to find new places for both children.

But the outcry over Marcus’ fate, which was reported across the world, has upset Mrs Davis.

She said: “I have been getting a lot of grief. I don’t agree that either of us, Mrs Charman or myself, should be getting grief.”
