CUDDLY lambs brought smiles to the faces of youngsters who turned up to Kent College's farm at Rough Common, near Canterbury.

The farm has almost 70 lambs, this season's offspring from its 35 ewes, as well as a dozen cattle, calves, 100 chickens and rabbits. It meant that its lambing day with about 120 people turning up.

The lambs are mainly bred from the farm's pedigree flock of Texel sheep and gave youngsters plenty of opportunity to cuddle and bottle-feed them. Some also took the calves on a walk.

Kent College students, under the supervision of farm manager Ian Lockwood, look after all the animals. Each summer they exhibit the sheep and cattle at the Kent County Show at Detling.

The school has a thriving young farmers' club and pupils learn how to care for the animals, check for problems, give injections and feed them. The farm has been a part of Kent College for about 10 years and is open to other schools in the area.
