We have heard of lighting up your life but is this taking things too far?

Thanet council bosses were left red-faced after they installed this lamppost only inches from an upstairs window.

The ornamental lamp was sited in King Street, Margate, to illuminate the area sufficiently for night time CCTV.

Margate ward councillor Clive Hart took the picture.

He said: “This really wasn’t a bright idea. Thanet council sited the lamppost for Kent County Council Highways.

“When I told the highways team, they couldn’t believe what had happened. Thanet council has now informed me that the lamppost has been removed.

“Paving blocks in the footpath were being replaced at the same time and the council has been working with KCC Highways to look at an alternative position. If only that joint approach had happened in the first place.”

A Thanet council spokesman said: “The street light has been moved and repositioned, and the ground has been reinstated.

“This was rectified straight away at minimal cost, reusing existing materials. We hope this has not caused any inconvenience.”
