Fuel-conscious motorists testing the new Land Rover Freelander, above, will find out green credentials do not mean passing up on fun when they test drive it in Kent this weekend.

Barretts Land Rover in Ashford and Canterbury are offering drivers the chance to register to take the new 2011 model for a spin.

Dealer Principal Mark Nicholas said: "On Sunday, October 24 we are offering local drivers an opportunity to book a first drive in the 2011 Freelander and experience its increased performance and improved fuel economy for themselves before it goes on sale in the UK."

The new 2.2-litre diesel engine is available as a TD4 150hp or a more powerful SD4 190hp variant but is two decibels quieter.

It delivers lower CO2 emissions of than the outgoing version by 14 per cent for automatic versions and seven per cent for manual versions.
