Thieves and drink drivers are just some of the people who have been in front of Kent magistrates recently.
Raider behind bars
Jamie Michael Turner, of Jenner Road, Rochester, stole groceries worth £60.84 from a service station in Watling Street, Strood, fragrances worth £15 from a shop in Delce Road, Rochester and a £15 gift set from a store in Rainham Shopping Centre.
Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 45 days in prison. He must also pay £90 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.
Chemist thief jailed
Edward Richard Phillips, of St Michael’s Close, Chatham, broke into a chemist in New Road, Chatham, and stole boxes of tablets worth an unknown amount.
Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
Driver banned
Saroop Singh, of King Street, Rochester, drove a Ford Fiesta in Delce Road, Rochester, and failed to stop the vehicle after an accident where a person was injured.
Magistrates sentenced the 31-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, banned him from driving for 12 months and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.
He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
Drink driver guilty
Marieta Goodier, of Rolvenden Road, Wainscott, drove a Nissan Micra in Jarrett Road, Wainscott, and gave a blood test of 151 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.
Magistrates banned the 73-year-old from driving for 18 months. She must also pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Camera vandal reprimanded
Christopher Couchman, of Grange Road, Gillingham, damaged security cameras worth £762 at an address in Melville Court, Chatham.
Magistrates sentenced the 37-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
Driver handed ban
Ewa Drezek, of Wallis Park, Northfleet, drove a Ford Focus in The Hill, Northfleet, and gave a blood test of 190 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.
Magistrates banned the 49-year-old from driving for 40 months. She must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
Woman handedsentence
Liza Marie Burns, of no fixed address, was drunk and disorderly and assaulted a police officer in Germander Avenue, Halling. She also assaulted another police officer at Medway Police Station.
And she failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.
Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 40 days in prison. She must also pay £100 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.
Gillingham driver guilty of driving offence
Cain Oliver, of Windemere Drive, Gillingham, drove a Volkswagen Caddy in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, and gave a breath test of 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Magistrates banned the 21-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £650 fine, £85 costs and a £65 victim surcharge.
Thug given suspended sentence
Kevin Peter Lee Friend, of Ingoldsby Road, Folkestone, used unlawful violence towards a man in public toilets in College Walk, Margate.
Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
Ashford man given unpaid work
David Clennett, of Harvey Road, Ashford, drove a Honda Jazz in Mill Court, Ashford, and gave a breath test of 114 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Magistrates banned the 35-year-old from driving for 22 months and ordered him to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
Ramsgate man handed suspended sentence
Dean Luckhurst, of Augusta Road, Ramsgate, stole a phone charger and power bank chargers worth £12 from a shop in High Street, Canterbury. He also used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards people, causing them to fear violence and had bolt croppers and scissors in his possession, for use in connection with theft.
He also failed to surrender to bail at Thanet Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse, stole speakers, headphones and a tablet device worth £359 from a supermarket in Angel Lane, Tonbridge. He also damaged police fast straps worth an unknown amount and assaulted a police officer.
And he failed to surrender to bail at West Kent Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.
Magistrates sentenced the 21-year-old to 180 days in prison, suspended for 24 months.
Shoplifter found guilty
Nathan James Sutton, of Shipwright’s Avenue, Chatham, stole headphones worth £289.95 from a shop in Kimberley Way, Ashford, and took a television worth £199.99 from a supermarket in Hythe Road, Ashford.
He stole a TV worth £250 from the same supermarket, and a computer tablet worth £250 from a supermarket in Park Farm, Ashford.
Magistrates sentenced the 37-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for 24 months. He must also pay £488 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.
Deal resident given driving ban
Gary Martin, of Stockdale Gardens, Deal, drove a Honda CRB in Matthews Close, Deal, and gave a breath test of 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Magistrates banned the 38-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £200 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Teen guilty of multiple offences
Kye Dunn, of Shooters Hill, Dover, drove a Vespa motorcycle in Dover, which he knew had been taken without the owner’s consent.
He also received a stolen Vespa motorcycle and drove it in Westbury Road, Dover, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance, stole a satellite navigation system and money worth £32 from a vehicle in Effingham Street, Dover, and took money worth £45 from a vehicle in Folkestone Road, Dover.
He broke into a taxi office in London Road, Dover, and stole money worth £76 and broke into a shop in Snargate Street, Dover, and stole fishing tackle, a passport, bank cards and cash worth £822.50 as well.
Magistrates sentenced the 19-year-old to 277 days in a Young Offender’s Institute and banned him from driving for 498 days. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
Woman sentenced for theft charges
Eileen Theresa Doherty, of Clifton Road, Folkestone, stole handbags worth £399.96 from a shop in Bouverie Place Shopping Centre, Folkestone.
She also stole handbags worth £559.93 from the same shop.
Magistrates sentenced the 33-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. She must also pay £758 compensation.
Ashford woman given driving ban
Susan Carol Easton, of Washford Farm Road, Ashford, drove a Ford Fiesta in Langney Drive, Ashford, and gave a breath test of 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Magistrates banned the 65-year-old from driving for 18 months. She must also pay a £294 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Drug driver behind bars
Myles Yarney, of Foord Road, Folkestone, drove a Toyota Celica in Turketel Road, Folkestone, while disqualified and with no insurance. He also failed to stop the vehicle when required to do so by a police officer, had a quantity of cannabis in his possession and gave a blood test of 4.6 microgrammes of cannabis per litre of blood. The threshold limit is 2 microgrammes.
He failed to surrender to bail at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse as well.
Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 84 days in prison and banned him from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £170 fine, £350 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
Shoplifter spared jail
Lee Tregaskes, of Linksfield Road, Westgate on Sea, stole meat worth £60 from a shop in Station Road, Westgate on Sea, and stole more meat worth £30 from a shop in Oxford Street, Whitstable.
Magistrates sentenced the 26-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.
He must also pay £90 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
