Leon Camier heads to Assen this weekend in search of another on the podium finish in the World Superbike Championship.

The 24-year-old Ashford-born rider (pictured) is growing in confidence after recording a third place finish in the European round of the series at Donington Park last month.

Following on from his first podium of the season, he will be keen for more silverware on Sunday to boost his title hopes.

The Assen circuit in Holland has proved to be a good hunting ground for Camier after securing his maiden World Superbike podium there last year.

He said: "I’m looking forward to the race weekend at Assen. It’s a circuit I enjoy and where I scored my first World Superbike podium when I was a rookie last year.

"Hopefully I’ll carry on feeling better and stronger and we can continue to stay on the podium."

The factory Aprilia rider’s start to the season has been dogged by a bout of glandular fever contracted before the opening race at Australia’s Phillip Island.

He was still feeling the effects of the condition following the last race at Donington Park and has travelled to Monaco to meet with specialists since the meeting in a bid to be 100 per cent fit for this weekend’s round at Assen.

Camier will begin the weekend lying seventh in the World Championship standings just a point behind fellow Brit and Castrol Honda rider Jonathan Rea.
