Let luck be a lady at the National

The Grand National is upon us and who better to give top tips than the Lady Luck of Longfield herself...

Great-great grandmother Emily Daniels has been baffling locals for years with her uncanny knack of picking a winning horse - despite the fact she struggles with her eyesight.

Now the 83-year-old is hoping to share her success with the rest of Kent as she divulges some tops tips for tomorrow’s big race at Aintree Racecourse. “Never go for the favourite, you’ll never win with the favourite,” she said.

“You’re better off going for the second favourite. It’s got more chance of winning in my opinion.”

Known as Lady Luck at her local bookies, Mrs Daniels has a habit of picking winners using a very unscientific method - choosing horses with names she likes.

And her hot tip for the Grand National? Butler’s Cabin.

But be warned, Emily’s first instict was Character Building - but that’s now not running!

Other non-National horses to keep your eye on, according to Emily, are The Hairy Lemon, Truly Fruitful and Pseudonym.

Emily added: “I only ever tell people if I am backing them myself. But you have to stick with them as if they don’t come in one week it is likely they will the next.”
