An inmate has been found dead in one of Sheppey’s prisons.

David English, 21, was serving life in HMP Swaleside for possession of a firearm with intent.

He was found hanging in his cell at 7.17am on Sunday.

Staff and paramedics attempted to resuscitate English, but he was pronounced dead at 7.31am.

The prisoner was not on suicide watch.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “As with all deaths in custody, the prisons and probation ombudsman will conduct an investigation.”
