The Fuse Festival is set to go off with a bang this year!
Medway councillor Howard Doe urged everyone to explore the artist in them, at the launch of this year's festival in Upnor.
The arts carnival starts on June 6 and runs for 15 days until June 20.
A launch was held on Tuesday at the Arethusa Jetty.
Arts crew The Neo Futurist Collective waved the Fuse flag, welcomed by residents and local dignitaries.
Visitors to the event will be able to join in a number of workshops and activities, offering the community the chance to discover their creative side.
Councillor Howard Doe, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community services, said: “This is very different from a lot of our other art provisions. Most of the time you have to go to the theatre, make a commitment. Here we’re bringing art right into the heart of communities.
“It’s not just about sitting and watching, but involving yourself in the art. It gives a lot of satisfaction to people to be able to do something like this, to bring out the hidden artist in themselves.”
The Arts Council of England has provided nearly £100,000 to make sure that, for the first time, all of the workshops are free.
The artists were welcomed by Upnor residents and supporters, brandishing flags and cheering. Some were screaming ‘art will not save the world!’, the group’s slogan to encourage positive thinking.
They asked the question 'what is special about Upnor?'
