Dame Kelly Holmes has backed fellow Kent middle-distance star Lisa Dobriskey to contend for a medal in London – if she can overcome her injury problems.
Holmes, from Hildenborough, landed an historic golden double in the 800m and 1500m at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, while former Ashford AC runner Dobriskey, from New Romney, was fourth at the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Dobriskey, 28, did however claim gold in the 1500m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and silver in the 2009 World Championships but has since been plagued by injury.
Holmes (pictured below) said: "Lisa has had her injury problems but if she gets to the Games and she’s in good shape, then she definitely has the ability to challenge in the 1500m."
Despite claiming London 2012 will be "the biggest event of our lifetimes," Holmes revealed she wouldn’t trade her double success in Greece for the chance to compete this summer.
She said: "I’ve had my career and I wouldn’t swap what I have done for anything, even winning a gold at London. It is fantastic for the county to have the Games so close to us. This is our chance to be part of something special."
