Loick Pires had admitted his failed pre-season trial at Crewe has made him hungrier to succeed with Welling.
Pires (pictured) spent a week on trial with the League 2 club but they decided not to pursue their interest.
The former Leyton Orient forward has scored twice in a week to help the Wings to an unbeaten start in Blue Square Bet South.
"I’ve come back hungrier to do well for Welling and hopefully I can get to the next level with Welling," he said. "I’ve had a taste of it and I want to get up there.
"It was a good experience at Crewe. I had a good week of fitness work and also to show them what I could do. They did like me but they said maybe it was a year too soon.
"It was a win-win situation as I was either going to move into the Football League or come back here and develop more under the management.
"Best-case scenario was I got signed up; worst-case scenario was I stay at a decent club that is pushing for promotion.
"It was good for me to do; I know I’m not too far off and I know what I’ve got to do to get there now.
"I can develop here and I had the best season of my life last year despite all the injuries. I love it here and I’m looking forward to the next few months.
"I know my role more than last year, whether I am playing up top or out wide, and I’m being more decisive in my decision making now."
